Worship

Crewe UMC gathers for one worship service on Sunday’s at 11:00AM in the Sanctuary. The style is traditional with a choir and organ but you do not have to dress traditionally to join us! We sing a blend of old favorites and more contemporary hymns. Once a month the Prime Chimers, our handbell choir, bless us with their gifts, and once a month music is led by Gospel Grass. (Check out the calendar to find out when they are playing!) We celebrate Holy Communion the first Sunday of each month. Pastor Christina has a different sermon series every 4 to 6 weeks. The current series is “Where Jesus Meets Us”: the places expected and unexpected we encounter Jesus. Click here to find out more.

This is an inspiring worship that seeks to connect the truth of the scripture with the reality of our daily life. Through a traditional order and a variety of musical gifts we hope to connect your spirit through praise with the Spirit of God.

Some practical things to know when you worship with us:

  • A bulletin is available to help guide you through worship each week. Please see one of the ushers at the entry doors.
  • We are serious about prayer. There is a time each week to lift up prayers. You are invited to add your prayers to the prayer list in the entry way as you come in, or lift them aloud during the Prayers of the People.
  • There is some standing during the service. Andy place where there is an * is a place where you are invited to stand. But you are welcome to remain seated as well…for any reason.

Children and Nursery

Children are welcome! We enjoy having children in worship. Bags are available for the children from the ushers. There is also a special “Young Disciples Moment” in worship where children can come forward to receive a message helps put the gospel into their language.

For kids that just need to be kids, we do have a nursery that has a paid staff person, Mrs. Jean, downstairs, ready to greet your young one. Children five and under are welcome to join her.

Sacraments
In keeping with our Methodist heritage, we celebrate two sacraments at Crewe UMC:

Holy Communion is the sacrament that sustains us and nourishes us for the Christian journey.  We remember Christ’s sacrifice for us, celebrate God’s love and forgiveness, receive anew God’s gifts of grace, and are reminded of God’s presence in our midst. We celebrate an “open table,” meaning that you do not have to be United Methodist or a member of Crewe UMC to join us in Holy Communion; all who seek Christ and seek to live in peace with others are welcome. Following our Methodist heritage, we use bread and grape juice to celebrate the sacrament. All are invited to come to the front and receive bread and a small cup of juice from the servers, kneel in prayer as you are led, and return to your seats. Monetary gifts are left at the communion rail to benefit our social welfare fund.

Baptism is the outward and visible sign of an inward grace, God’s work in our lives. Baptism marks our entrance into the community of faith and, therefore, is celebrated in the community during Sunday morning worship. Those seeking infant or adult baptism or with questions about this entry into the faith are invited to contact the pastor by e-mail or by calling the church office.
