Relay For Life- May 31, 2014
Crewe UMC participated in the Relay For Life of Nottoway for the second year on May 31. Our team is ‘Cross and Flames 4 A Cure’. We had a wonderful time of fellowship while hearing stories from survivors, remembering those who had passed on and raised money to continue the fight against cancer!
In 1985, Dr. Gordy Klatt spent 24 hours running and walking more than 83 miles around a local track. He wanted to raise money for the American Cancer Society while also showing what someone fighting cancer might endure. Throughout the night, nearly 300 people paid money to run or walk with him. That day, Dr. Klatt raised $27,000, and the Relay For Life movement began.
Relay For Life is a celebration of survivorship – an occasion to express hope and our shared goal to end a disease that threatens the lives of so many people we love. The journey to end cancer starts with a single step. The American Cancer Society invites you to take that step with us by joining the global Relay For Life movement. When you walk to end cancer at a Relay event, it’s your opportunity to not only honor cancer survivors and remember loved ones lost, but also to raise awareness about what we can do to stay well from cancer and raise money to help support finding the cure!
